Pastor L. Scott Hamby
Senior Pastor, Scott Hamby, began his pastorate at First Baptist Church on Sunday, July 17, 2016. He is an evangelist and preacher from Liberty, Missouri. He invested in churches over the last 20 years through preaching and teaching, and established an evangelistic association with an emphasis on spiritual renewal and revivals. His genuine passion for the Lord infiltrates his ministry and he brings the Holy Scripture to life in challenges and encouragement for believers.
He completed a Theological Studies degree in Christian Doctrine at Southwest Baptist University. In bi-vocational work, Scott served as a Police Officer and Sergeant for 20 years until his informal retirement in 2015. He also served as a Vice-President for a major national bank in Enterprise Security, having done work in fraud and cyber investigations, risk management, and compliance over the last 13 years. Scott and his wife, Julie, have three children.
Through the Lord's leadership, Scott's vision and prayer for members of First Baptist are for all to grow in a robust relationship with Jesus Christ, which will lead believers to pour out the gospel and Christ's love in service to Elkins and West Virginia.
Director of Music
Music is Nancy’s life passion. In particular, sharing her faith through contemporary music. This passion took her on tour with a Christian music group while attending West Virginia University (WVU) where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. Upon graduation, Nancy went to Louisville, Kentucky. She taught mathematics and coached basketball while continuing to sing at various venues and ultimately accepted a position as Choir Director in a local church. During her tenure in Louisville, she worked toward a Masters in Mathematics at the University of Louisville and a Minister of Music Masters at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Nancy moved to Elkins, WV where she married and was blessed with a daughter. She completed her Master’s in Curriculum Development at Salem University, accepted a position as a math teacher and coach at the High School, then began to additionally work in the real estate business.
First Baptist Church of Elkins welcomed Nancy to a role in the music program as worship leader and vocalist with the Praise Team. In 2016, Nancy accepted the position as Director of Music as bi-vocational while she continues to teach. In response to the clear calling of God on Nancy’s life as a minister of music, First Baptist Church licensed her to the Music Ministry on April 9, 2017. Nancy is now responsible for the full program of music at the church which includes worship, praise team, various choirs, drama, puppeteering and other music related ministries.
Ministerial Administrative Assistant/Office Manager
Evelyn has been a faithful member of First Baptist Church for 55 years and has held the position of church secretary for over 30 years. She has a great desire to serve God by helping church members and those in the community in their time of need.
On a personal level, Evelyn is an avid Pittsburgh football and hockey enthusiast, loves cooking for family and friends and gardening.
She has many years of life experience being a minister of helps to the body of Christ.
Director of Facilities & Grounds
Bob has worked in the landscaping business for over 15 years. He is a graduate of Elkins High School and earned a degree from Davis & Elkins College, a Bachelor of Arts, in Physical Education.
He worked for UPS for over 33 years and is now retired. He since started his own handyman and landscaping services before coming to First Baptist Church.
Bob manages and maintains all aspects of the church facilities as well as the the beautification of the church grounds and landscaping.
